351W....I forgot to mention the change I was reading over our blog and realized I failed to mention that the truck was not advertised correctly. When we finally got the HUGE amount of dirt off of the engine and motor bay, I realized we had a 351W. When I tore into the block and got the numbers, it is a 1974 sedan block. When we got futher into the block, we found the timing chain was worn and the timing gear had a bunch of worn teeth and a crack!!! The heads look great, but need a porting. I am also considering a 3 angle valve job. We are not looking to go with performance heads or the like. read more1 year ago | 79 views, 3 comments |

Back to the motor! I have a business trip for the next two weeks, so we are trying to ge the motor out. That way Redd has a couple of things to keep her busy until I get back at the end of the month. We were able to remove the nuts and bolts for everything and only have one nut holding us back...a flex plate nut!!! its stripped. We'll get it off today and then drop the trans and pull the motor. After that, we can put the motor on the engine stand and Redd can begin opening it up and cleaning. We decided to buy replacement fenders and radiator support from LMC. read more1 year ago | 115 views, 3 comments |

Sand, Sand, and more Sand Billy here. We almost have the hood sanded down to bare metal and its as I fears. There was some significant body filler on it. But that wasn't the bad; the bad is that the body filler was laid right over the factory paint and then painted over. I can't wait to find out what other short cuts were taken as we dig into this more. In any case, this is a good way to get work done during the limited hours on week nights. We thought we'd do all the sanding weekday's after school/work. Weekends is for the big sutff. read more1 year ago | 80 views, 2 comments |

The hood continues Redd continued working the hood last night. SHe could only get on it for an hour. She had to study for big tests this week; school first. But, she was able to remove the top layer of paint from more than half of the underside. The best news of this part of the project is that the underside of the hood only had OEM layer of paint and primer. The original dark blue was easy to remove, leaving the light blue primer as our starting point for new paint. No big issues yet. read more1 year ago | 92 views, 5 comments |

Starting out; first weekend turning wrenches... This is my 15 year old daughter's dream truck. She saved two years of baby sitting and car wash money to buy an early 80s Ford Pickup. She loves these trucks. Last weekend we were cruzin craigslist and saw this little F150 in Tucson for just under a grand. We drove up with every intent to buy. It's in rough shape and I thought Redd (my daughter) would pass on it. But she fooled me. She wanted the challenge of bringing back a lost mechanical soul from the abyss. So we drove it home. The engine was great and it tracked true and steady on the interstate. read more1 year ago | 64 views, 5 comments |

EZ Strip is better than 3m We forgot we had a gallon of EZ Stip until this morning. Needless to say, the hood was stipped of paint in about an hour. Sure beats sanding for three or four hours. Turns out the hood is not that bad. A few small dings and no major dents. We can work with this. Time to grab some primer and find those highs and lows so we can get it straight. read more1 year ago | 69 views, 4 comments |
