1968 VW Squareback Next project
Submitted by Jimbobjoe57 on Fri, 2010-11-19 00:19
Well, I have started another VW project. This time I will be using a 68 VW Squareback. Kinda like a Vega Wagon, of that era. It has a 3" chopped top. The side quarter windows had been filled in, but done very badly. Someone had used about 2 gallons of bondo on each side of the car. I have since removed all of that. It will have suicide doors, and frenched headlight. I have taken the drivetrain and VW pan out from under it. I will be replacing it with a tube chassis like I did for the beetle. The engine will be a 1953 331 Chrysler Hemi. It will have a 6-71 blower as well. Trans will be a Chrysler 727. Rearend will be a 9" Ford, narrowed with 31 spline axles, and a set of 31 Mickeys. It will be sick, at best.

Thanks Fred.........Wish it would just come along a little quicker!!!!!!!!!
I can see your vision of what you want it to look like, it's going to look good. What color are you going to paint it, maybe a black and copper two tone.
Thanks alot on the comment.......You are close on the two tone. Black and Surf Blue......Dodge Caliber Surf Blue Pearlcoat..........
That wiil be a good color choice i like it.
I can't wait to get it to that point!!!!!!!!!!!!! Workin on the hemi.........
It can't come soon enough!!!!
They never seem to be soon enough!!!!!!!!!!
that sounds awesome! My next project is to take the drivetrain out of a classic beetle and build an Amish buggy on top of it. Then I can have a VW powered Amish buggy (no horses). I think that'll get a ton of looks as I cruise around town :)
My wife thinks Im insane - this place is the only place I fit in!
That will be wild..............Thanks alot!!!!!!!!!
Can't wait to see the squareback finished...really looking forward to it!
Trapper
Thanks Trapper........Not coming along as I would like. It will fun!!!!!!!!!!!!
Be patient...It'll come in due time. My Dad used to say(when I would try to rush something,)
"people never seem to have time to do things right, but they always have time to do it twice."
No reflection on your work intended.
