I bought this truck about 2 years ago and built it on 5 tons and 62" R2 tires.

Here is the build process for that. If you keep reading, i'll go into the buildup of "hybrid" 2.5 ton planetary axles that i made myself and upgraded to 72" R2 tires.

anyway.... this is the truck the night i brought it home.it had been a work truck it''s whole life. 295,000 miles and a blown up 4L80e.

these are the axles, the night i got them. they're 5 ton rockwell axles. i'm currently getting the brakes off of them and welding up the differentials.

here's an axle shaft from the rear.

transfer case.... 5.26:1 ratio and roughly 85 lbs.

1.25" heim joints, tube adapters, and jam nuts...

more updates coming in a minute...

it's just a hobby.... i started out with a 1 ton jeep, then an S10 on 2.5 tons, and then i built this.

somehow i got all my replies mixed up and they're not in the right order. oh well.

getting close to

getting close to done...

so basically it stayed like this for about a year....

all my buddies eventually got bigger tires, so i had to do the same....i bolted up some 65" tires with no other changes. here it is testing for clearance issues.

but that only lasted for a couple months. i ran across a good deal on some axles.

i ended up taking those axles and grafting the ends onto a 2.5 ton rockwell center section, but i'm tired of posting pics now. i'll post up details on the build if there is interest.

here's the finished product on 72's.

so anyway.... there's a pile of pics. if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

final 4 link numbers....

final 4 link numbers....

and....

rear 4 link is all tacked together. needs to get welded up still.

been pretty rained out all day... so i was painting wheels. what do you think about these?

also got some welding done...

i messed around with the front springs for 2 days. couldn't get anything figured out that i like. so, today i decided to work on something else.

got the profab mounted and rear springs built....

Wow that is one nice truck, my 38.5 boggers I run on the street seem pretty small now.
